My
top three picks would be as follows:
1.
Dinosaur State Park
(70
acres) - Rocky Hill.
Unique preservation of thousands of dinosaur tracks.
Hands on displays for all visitors both young and old.
Plaster cast making of actual dinosaur tracks.
Interpretive trails.
2.
Gillette Castle State Park (184 acres) - Haddam.
Former home of actor William Gillette, who portrayed Sherlock Holmes in
numerous theatrical productions of Sherlock Holmes plays.
The castle is a unique stone structure located on a bluff high above the
scenic Connecticut River. Memorabilia
from the productions as well as, interesting architecture
available for public view. The
Castle is closed until 2002 for major renovations and construction of a
visitor's center.

Hammonasset Beach State Park
(919
acres) - Madison. Largest
shoreline park in Connecticut with two miles of white sandy beach located on
Long Island Sound. Excellent for
saltwater swimming , camping, nature center.
