Location: The Arkansas Post National Memorial is located on AR 169, 7 miles south of Gillett via US 165, and 20 miles northeast of Dumas via US 165. 

Description: The park commemorates the first permanent French settlement in the Lower Mississippi Valley, founded in 1686. Often called the "Birthplace of Arkansas," the post was the site of French and Spanish forts and trading stations, the scene of a skirmish in the wake of the Revolutionary War, a territorial capital, a thriving river port, and a battleground during the Civil War.

Activities: By starting at the visitor center, you can begin by watching the 23-minute film, "Arkansas Post: Echoes of the Past," and exploring the exhibits. Marked trails lead through the historic townsite area and around the park lake. Guided tours are available for groups upon request. Reservations are recommended. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the town site and nature trails. A Junior Ranger program is available for children ages 7 - 12. On-site and off-site school programs are available upon request.

Operating Hours: The Arkansas Post National Memorial grounds are open daily: 8:00 a.m. to dark. The visitor center is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The visitor center is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

History
: Named a state park in 1929; transferred to federal control and designated a national memorial in 1964.
