Size: 120,296 acres

Visitation: 231,713 (2003)

Location: Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area is located in south-central Montana and north-central Wyoming. There are two visitor centers and other developed facilities in Fort Smith, Montana and near Lovell, Wyoming. To get to the north end of park, take I-90 to Hardin, MT, and Hwy 313 40 miles south to Fort Smith. To get to the south end of park, take US 310 from Billings, MT or US 14A from Sheridan, WY to Lovell, and continue 2 miles east on Highway 14A to Highway 37, then north 9 miles. 

Description: Bighorn Lake, formed by Yellowtail Dam on the Bighorn River, extends 71 miles through Wyoming and Montana, including 55 miles through spectacular Bighorn Canyon. The Crow Indian Reservation borders a large part of the area.

Activities: Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area offers a variety of recreational opportunities such as boating, fishing, hiking, magnificent vistas, wildlife watching, camping, and biking. Rental boats are available during the summer from the Ok-A-Beh marina located in the recreation area.

History: Established on October 15, 1966.
