Just downriver from New Orleans is the Chalmette Battlefield, site of the January 8, 1815, Battle of New Orleans. The battlefield grounds include the Chalmette Monument, which pays tribute to the troops who fought there, and the historic Malus-Beauregard House (pictured above), built in the 1830s.
