In 1913, concerned about the prospect of a park overrun by automobiles, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. began building a single lane carriage road, connected by a series of bridges, crafted from local granite and cobblestones. Cobblestone Bridge (pictured above) is one of 17 stone-faced bridges along this 45-mile carriage road system, spanning streams, waterfalls, cliffs, and roads. The design of each bridge is unique.
