Arkansas' Most Scenic and Roads and Byways

Crowley's Ridge Parkway - Arkansas

The 212-mile parkway includes a 198-mile section in Arkansas and a 14-mile section in Missouri. Crowley's Ridge Parkway in Arkansas follows Crowley's Ridge, a series of rolling hills stretching north to south in the midst of the Arkansas delta. The area is abundant in wildlife and natural areas as the byway traverses the Chalk Bluff Natural Area, five state parks, and the Saint Francis National Forest. Area also includes remnants of Native American culture and Civil War history.

Start and Endpoint: The Arkansas section of the byway runs from Saint Francis (near the Arkansas-Missouri border) to Helena (near the Arkansas-Tennessee border).

Great River Road

The 2,069-mile Great River Road borders the Mississippi through the states of Mississippi, Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The 362-mile Arkansas segment features museums and monuments highlighting Civil War history and archeology of the ancient Mississippi mound-building cultures. It also offers opportunities for outdoor recreation including fishing and wildlife viewing.

Start and Endpoint: The north-south route runs from the historic concrete arch that spans US 61 at the Missouri state line to US 65 at the Louisiana state line. Near the southern terminus of the Arkansas section of the byway, a spur route runs east on US 82 to the Mississippi River Bridge and the Mississippi state line.

Talimena Scenic Drive

Byway stretches across the top of the Ouachita Mountains in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas, the highest mountain range between the Appalachians and the Rockies. The Arkansas section of the byway provides access to recreation destinations such as the Ouachita National Forest, as well as Queen Wilhelmina State Park and the Black Fork Mountain Wilderness Trail. The Ouchita National Forest features more than 700 trails for hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicles, including the Ouachita National Recreation Trail, a 194-mile trail that traverses the forest.

Start and Endpoint: The Arkansas section of the byway runs from Mena, AR to the Arkansas-Oklahoma state line.
